O! the time had been spent,
The journey was long and done,
The heroes were welcomed back to town,
The parties and gifts were distributed, shared.
The wealthy laughed merrily,
The poor were given a share,
The innkeepers made an amount,
The heroes were welcomed back to town.
The town was lit throughout,
All seemed well and good,
All was going well off.
Strolled I into the alleys of the town,
The parties were being a held,
The people were engaged,
Except a person lying in the amorphous shadows.
A bedraggled figure was made out,
Sitting on a morbid log,
Waiting to be noticed, vainly,
Begging, morbidly, invisibly, for a share.
And my fists went clenched,
And my heart wrenched,
For it hit me hard,
That we had left out the orphan.
